Come Celebrate the Chinese Moon Festival with Monk Wise Academy!
The Moon Festival has many reasons to be. In ancient times it was used to celebrate the abundance of food from the fall harvest.
There was once a general who had the idea of making a cake shaped like a moon, for his soldiers, as the moon was large and mighty.
During the Ming dynasty secret messages were hidden in these "moon cakes" to plan secret meetings where they could discuss their contempt and unrest towards the current government. As the rebellion continued the moon cakes contained information which led to coordinated attacks aimed at overthrowing the government.
In Mongolia there is also a similar festival. They ride their horses heading west, and do so until the sun comes up. In Tibet the Children will chase the moon in the river. The Moon Festival is also celebrated in Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Korea, Japan, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
Monk Wise will celebrate the Moon Festival be eating delicious food, visiting with classmates and friends, sharing stories and laughter, and of course some martial arts. We can't wait to see you there!
